latin billboard

The Billboard Latin Music Awards grew out of the Billboard Music Awards program from Billboard Magazine, an industry publication charting the sales and radio airplay success of musical recordings. The Billboard Latin Music Awards honor the most popular albums, songs, and performers in Latin music, as determined by the actual sales and radio airplay data that informs weekly charts of Latin Billboard during a one-year period from the issue dated February 9, 2009 through this year’s January 30, 2010 issue.

Finalists, and the eventual winners, reflect the performance of new recordings on sales charts of Latin Billboard, including Top Latin Albums, and radio charts, Hot Latin Songs, with album categories confined to titles that did not appear before Nov. 8, 2008 issue but excluding finalists from the prior-year’s Billboard Latin Music Awards.

Based on sales data compiled by Nielsen SoundScan and radio information monitored by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems, charts of Latin Billboard are the world’s most authoritative music charts.

Also presented on the show are Billboard’s prestigious discretionary awards including Spirit of Hope for humanitarian contributions, and the Lifetime Achievement award.

The Billboard Latin Music Awards ceremony became the network’s highest-rated music special and recognizing the most popular Latin music acts on the charts.
